August 6, 1928 – February 22, 1987

We moved into Andy's neighborhood over 6 years ago. He has always been a good neighbor. He keeps to himself and doesn't bother anybody.

People have been known to decorate his abode sporadically. The items collect in an unusual looking display of love and devotion. From time to time the staff removes the items giving a fresh canvas for the visitors to decorate.

On the 21 anniversary of his passing, here is the first in an occasional series of photos of Andy Warhol's tombstone.

Not a comment, but some questions....

- is the cementary located in the neighborhood where Andy grew up?

- is his mother's grave near his?

- is it common to see people making a "pigrimage" to see Andy's grave?

Thanks.

Answers as best I know them.

- The cemetary is not in the neighborhood where he grew up. It is the cemetary for a different Byzantine Catholic church. Andy's wikipedia entry explains it more fully. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Warhol

- His mother and father are buried in the row behind Andy and slightly to the left. So, Andy is buried at her feet.

- I have really never noticed anyone on a "pilgrimage". I sure it is just a timing issue.

Let's organize a pilgrimage. I'd like to see it. What are you favorite Warhol works? I like the death and disaster stuff.. Jackie.. Electric Chair.. I also like the Myths stuff with the diamond dust. I went to Truman Capote's grave.. it was very cool and located in an odd part of Hollywood and if I remember right Marilyn was buried there too.
